Learning to Surrender: How I Found God in My Darkest Moments

There comes a moment in life when you realize you are no longer in control. For me, that moment came when I lost everything, my career, my reputation, my freedom. I had spent years believing that my strength came from my ability to fix things, to manage crises, and to stay in control. But in the quiet isolation of a federal prison, I was forced to confront a truth I had long resisted: real strength comes from surrendering to God.
I remember the night I truly let go. Lying in my bunk, the weight of shame, fear, and uncertainty pressing down on me, I whispered a simple prayer: “God, I can’t do this alone. If You’re here, if You still have a plan for me, I need You now.” In that moment, I felt a shift—not in my circumstances, but in my spirit. The same God who had been with me in my success was with me in my suffering.
What Surrendering to God Taught Me:
- Surrender Isn’t Giving Up—It’s Trusting Completely
I thought surrender meant weakness, but I learned that it takes more strength to let go and trust God than to try to control everything.
- God’s Plans Are Greater Than Mine
I had my life mapped out, but when it all fell apart, God began rewriting my story in ways I never expected.
- Peace Comes from Trusting, Not Knowing
Even when I didn’t have answers, God’s presence was enough to carry me.
Surrendering to God didn’t change my situation overnight, but it changed me. If you’re in a dark season, let go. Trust Him. He is working, even when you can’t see it.
